Hi
I used a 5/16" bolt for the duration of the time I had my Herald, about ten
years without any problem though the crinkle washer was still in place. I
see no reason not to use a 5/16" bolt as the pin is 5/16"dia. The specific
bolt I used was the one that holds the alternator on to most Triumphs
originally fitted with one!
