Claes, several people already have suggested checking and cleaning various
electrical contacts, such as the battery terminals and all other wires
going to the starter and solenoid -- all very good advice. There is one
other problem that can affect this starter. It could possibly be jammed
against the flywheel. If this is the case, sometimes it can be freed
simply by rocking the car back in forth while in gear (ignition off,
please). Sometimes, depending on the starter, the exposed, squared-off end
of the armature sticks out on the one end of the starter. You can put a
wrench on this and turn it until you feel it "break" free. Or you can
unbolt the starter and try to remove it, which also should unjam the
starter.
