At the time of Le Mans '64, the GT6 was still under development, and had
not been announced.
However, the standard factory hard-top shape was considered not
aerodynamic enough to give the Spitfire the top speed it needed to be
competitive. What was actually fitted to the car was a fibre-glass
roof, with the profile of that later fitted to the GT6. Beneath, the
car is definitely Spitfire and not GT6, albeit largely modified for race
use - aluminium body, TR4 gearbox, bigger brakes etc. Power was from a
1147 cc 4-pot engine derived from the Spitfire of the time, but with
modified head and twin Weber carbs.
