Hi all,
Thanks again to everyone who tried to help with that non-running Spitfire
that I was going out to see today. I received several excellent suggestions
and some kind advice from several who e-mailed me rather than clutter the
list. VERY much appreciated.
I have some exciting news. I was the winning bidder of the '69 Mk3 on eBay
late this afternoon! Whoo-hooo! Ironically, I had offered the owner $1,100
for it about two weeks ago. The closing bid? $1,110.
Anyway, I'm thrilled. I'm also very close to picking up a near-concourse
frame-off Mk3 that I've mentioned previously. The eBay Spitfire was my
back-up plan in case the frame-off deal fell through, but the owner didn't
want to wait. Rather than risking the loss of both, I went ahead and bid on
the fixer, figuring that I could still get away with spending $1,100 since
I'm certain I could sell it again for that price if I get the cherry-mobile
in the midwest. Now, if that deal goes south, at least I FINALLY HAVE ONE!!
I can be in the club again!! Hooray!
Now, my question. I noticed after lightening up the photos of the car I
purchased on eBay, that there doesn't appear to be any heater or fan
controls above the two center-mounted guages. Not even the slots for them!
I know that on earlier Mk3's the heater was an OPTION. Could it be that in
'69, the heaters were still an option and the original purchaser opted NOT
to get the heater? Or is it more likely that the dash is not original and
someone arbitrarily decided to do something else with the sliders altogether
(like omit them!)? Any ideas?
