There are parts which should be changed, but nothing really needs to changed
except lifters. One thing to look for when installing a new cam is valve
spring bind, or whether the valve springs can keep up with the increased lift
and duration, I would definately put uprated valve springs. It's not a bad
idea to begin lightening everything in valve actuation by putting in
lightened lifters, light reatainers, tubular pushrods, and if you have the
bucks roller rockers aren't a bad idea, but the stock are plenty good. To
get the full effect from an increased camshaft you should, Increase
compression and ease flow of air in and out of the engine ie: porting and
polishing of the head, uprated carb. system, header and free flow exhaust.
Just installing a new cam will make a difference, but it is the whole package
that really makes the difference.
