Yes, not the gears but the carrier is strengthened (I bet that the old
carrier split right at the junction where the casting joins the ring gear
mounting boss). And If you find an automatic, the gear ratio would be the
same as I believe that automatics had the 3:27 ratio. Unfortunately, you
have to take all the internals out and transfer them to the Spit/GT6
housing assembly. For some reason when they made the TR7 with the what I
call "small nose" rear axle assembly, the housing assy from the
Spit/GT6/Vitesse wasn't used. While appearing outwardly identical, If you
look carefully you will notice that the four mounting bosses for the front
plate used on the independent rear diff's aren't there. Otherwise it's
exactly the same as the housing for the Spitfire/GT6?Vitesse. I myself
would have thought that using the same casting would have been cheaper
(just eliminate the machining for the mounting plate holes if you like, but
leave the casting as is) Apparently BL decided not to for some reason and
used an entirely different housing casting. Too bad as one could have just
machined the holes and threaded them. Then you wouldn't have had to mess
with setting up the rear when swapping one from a TR7 -
