Hi Tony! Hope your son is enjoying his new "toy" - what am I talking about? Of
course he will!
I may be able to help you with your wiper problem, because I had an identical
problem on my '77 Spitfire (different wipers, but close enough...) I eventually
traced this to the wiper park switch (located on the bulkhead (firewall) - it's
on the right hand side on a RHD car, but may be the left hand side on LHD, I
don't know)
There's a little cam on the motor (I think someone else suggested that it may be
this cam that's worn) which presses on a switch on the bottom of the park
switch, which is supposed to open a circuit. I removed the park switch, and
with the help of an ohm-meter, discovered that this switch wasn't working. A
new switch only costs a few pounds, and took a matter of seconds to fit. (If
only all problems were that simple!)
Good luck!
Dean

Subject: New Arrival: 1980 Spitfire (and new to the list)
One of my son's became the proud owner of a 1980 Spitfire last evening,
which will make us the owners a real (if small) Triumph collection!
Purchased very reasonably from a local breakers yard (wasn't in to be
scrapped - the owner is a bit of a collector of LBCs, but decided that he
didn't wan't going to take on Lucas). Don't know too much about its
history: chassis TRVDW2AT002515, manufactured in January 1980.
The car is an unfinished restoration with excellent body/frame (all mechs
running, but electrics all over the place!). To that end, anyone have an
idea why the wiper switch will not turn off? We can get low or high, but
not off (except when the switch is hanging between the 2 positions)! And
is there a secret to removing the ignition key from the lock (already tried
the push and turn anti-clockwise without effect)?
