Listers:
Well, I'm not sure that there is anyone left since all seem to have left
for Portland! But, I did receive the info from Colin Dray at Conversion
Components in NZ re: his anticipated Spitfire 5 speed conversion. I have
converted the prices to US $ using one of the numerous conversion web sites
and the prices work out as follows:
Conversion Kit (includes bell housing kit w/ spigot bearing and gaskets,
$678.35
clutch fork (hydra), thrust bearing, carrier,
clips, reco
slave cylinder, clutch plate (conversion 8")
and speedo
cable)
Air freight & Documentation
73.62
Total $751.97
He will also sell you the Toyota 2T 5 speed gearbox for $291.85 but that
increases the shipping to $156.70.
The 2T ratios are: 3.58, 2.02, 1.38, 1.1, .86. How do these compare to the
non O/D and O/D ratios?
Colin also wrote that so long as the 1147, 1296 and 1500 engines are the
same at the rear where the bell housing bolts on, then the kit can be used
by any of them.
If you can source the gearbox locally for about $250 or so, then the
total cost of approx. $1000 seems to be a lot less then converting an non
O/D car to O/D.
Wish I was in Portland!
