I bought my '78 1500 through a friend of mine who runs
a private dealership. He found the car at an auction,
where another dealership was selling it. Needless to
say I don't know much about the PO, nor the mechanical
history of my car. Since I was going to restore the
car anyway, I figured I'd make my own history with it.
Last night motoring around, not just top down, but top
off, I pulled into the parking lot of a local sports
bar. A woman, walking across the parking lot stopped,
stared, pointed and said "...omygod, that's my
car!..." Thinking she was making this accusation in a
figurative tone, I slowed down and joked back "...no,
it's MINE!..." She said, "...no really, that WAS my
car, I just KNOW it is..." Well, to make a long story
short, she WAS the PO and knew all the things that I
had to fix (which I have) in order to get it reliable.
We exchanged names and numbers, and she said she
would send me all the old papers on the car. She even
said she would throw in a Triumph jacket that she
doesn't ware anymore.
I asked her why she got rid of the car (expecting the
worst) and she pointed and said "...because I bought
that..." She was pointing at a brand new BMW Z3... I
asked her if she was happy with the Z, and she
said..."...I miss my spitfire..."
YESSSSSSSSSS. You could almost hear the spitfire
snicker when we parked next to the the Z.

BTW - thanks to everyone for their recent comments on
my almost electrical fire. I did some pretty stupid
things to cause it, but I found out what the problems
were, fixed them and learned. What it's all about right?
