I'm new to the list, although I've been following it a while. I am
hoping someone can give me some insight into transmission rebuild for my
Spitfire, 1979 1500.
The original trans was had the 21 tooth rev idler set. Because of its
unavailability I replaced that set of components with the 17 tth set.
The problem is that while the reverse end meshes fine, the new cluster
gear does not mesh with the input, 2d, and 3rd gears. My first thought
is that I was sent the wrong cluster gear. But it is also possible that
(although it is not mentioned anywhere I have found) the mainshaft gears
mentioned also need to be changed.
Any information or experience would be helpful (suppliers todate haven't
been very helpful in this regard).
