Thanks to all that responded.
I will add that I tried to lift the body off yesterday and it wouldn't shift
at the front, so I ran down my checklist of things to disconnect or unbolt,
all ticked.
I'd left the dash in but I thought 'it can't weigh that much', then I
realised the steering column was still attached to the rack! Not on the list
don't do it.
BTW stripping the insides out took me back 20 years to my first Spit,
everything the same except this one has a black cover screwed to the floor
at the end the gearbox cutout (in front of the handbrake) is this something
to do with the overdrive box I don't have?
Also this is the fourth car in a row that I've rebuilt that has been white
(MG Metro, XR2, X19, Spitfire) and I've had more white cars all together
than any other colour, deep psychological reason or just chance?
Finally, seen a RED Spit on a drive near my daughters work experience
placement (not on my usual route to work) covered in dust and the tops
ripped. Either he's just bought it to restore or it's mine and he just
doesn't know it yet, how do you work on red cars?
Hot air off.
Regards,
Paul.
White 1500 with interesting brown shading.
