Mike,

In our area, the closest tracks are Lime Rock (CT) and Pocono (PA) (which
has several infield road race layouts).

Call the tracks for information about who is running what events and when.
Then you can call the organizing clubs, who will probably let you spectate
for free (SURELY for free if you offer to man a flagging station!).

Other track activities are Driving Schools (again, the tracks will tell you
who runs at their facilities) and club Track Days, where you get to drive
your street car at speed on the track (passing only on the straights,
usually).

There are smaller oval tracks nearby such as Flemington, Wall, New Egypt,
and Middletown NY.

Lots of opportunities!
