Couple of ??'s

Hi all,

Question #1: Thrust washers (yet again): After all the recent talk, I decided
to order some.  Moss shows three sizes: Standard and two others.  How do I know
what size I need?

Question #2:  Any suggestions on how to remove that whiteish corrosion on the
outside of an alternator that has been sitting around for quite some time? 
I was thinking of using a wire wheel on my drill and then spraying the unit
with clear coat.
