I repainted my Spitfire bumpers about 13 years ago with the "rubber bumper
paint" that you can buy at auto stores. The only preparation I did was to
clean the bumpers with soap and water. I did remove them from the car
because it makes the job much easier to do.
As to the "missing object" under your Spitfire, could that possibly be the
valence that directs air from the spoiler through the radiator? As I recall
mine was made out of that cardboard stuff and it fell off about 18 years
ago.

Subject: repainting the rubber bumpers
Is there any special procedure to make the rubber bumpers good again? is it
a simple case of removal, repaint, and re-attach? Or is there something
more?
My 2 cents on valences: I bought the plastic set from VB, since my original
cardboard ones were shredded, and they are OK at most. WIth my car's
overheating problems, some of the edges are a bit warped.
Something seems to be ripped off('79 mind you) on the bottom of my Spit that
seemed to be rubber. The only thing that's left are two rubber tabs that
went directly under the space under the leaning radiator. Anyone know what
it is, and would not having it contribute to cooling problems?
