I'm puzzled.. Are you talking about a nitrocellulose lacquer paint
job?? If you're talking about a modern urethane paint job 25 total
coats (regardless of how much inter-coat sanding was done) would be WAY
too thick of a film. I'm doing my own paint job and all of the product
documentation I have says that the total film thickness should only be
a couple thousandths of an inch. As a matter of fact, a lot of pro
painters have specially calibrated magnetic tools that measure the
finished film thickness to ensure that it's NOT too thick, which is all
too easy when using a two stage (base/clear) system because of the
tendancy to spray each of the coats too thick. If it's something they
worry about with only one base and one clear coat, what do you think
they'd say about 25?!?!?
