I think you just hit on it right there! Sometimes I think the stores
think they can just hire some data entry clerk and set them behind the
computer. It just doesn't work. The computer is no substitute for a
knowledgeable individual!

I think it is all in the "luck of the draw". While I shared my
negative experience, it is probably only fair to mention I have
received good help at times.

For example, several weeks ago a counter worker at Pep-Boys spent a
good 20-25 minutes working with me to help replace my radiator hoses.
He had common sense (the ability to match-up my old hoses lengths and
diameters) and a genuine desire to spend time and help.

I left the store that night with three new hoses that had nothing to
do with my Triumph; yet when I got back to the garage they fit
perfectly after a little length trimming. (Even the lower hose which
connects to the water pump and snakes around the block and across the
bottom front of the engine... I have the '79-'80 cooling system). I
saved those part numbers so I can replace the hoses later without
difficulty.

Unfortunately, I stopped on my way home to look for the points and the
only place here is that Discount Auto. There is a guy there who has
helped me in the past. Too bad he wasn't there when I needed him.

There is a NAPA store about 12-15 minutes from here, but it is farther
away then the others... I've never been there, but I think I'm going
to start...
