When doing the push on the pulley test to check the thrust washers, how
hard should it be to move things back and forth (69 1300cc motor)? My car
has the slanted radiator electric fan setup, so access to the crank pulley
is a little difficult. With heaving on it as best I can, I seem to have a
barely perceptible amount of movement. The reason I ask is that my clutch
trouble has progressed to the point where it is nearly impossible to get
into reverse, and the clutch engages about 1/2 millimeter above the floor.
I have not yet removed the tunnel cover to get at the slave cylinder to
look around yet, I hope it just needs to be bled. Last summer I swapped out
the master cylinder twice without ever bleeding the system - I am hoping
that is all it is, but I am preparing for the worst. For the ultimate test,
is removing the oil pan as straight forward as it looks? I am not going to
drive it again until I get to the bottom of this. ;-( And doesn't it
figure, I have finally gotten the carbs set just about the way I want them
so he's running the best he ever has!
