Hey everyone,
My Mark III was working fine around the neighbourhood, but when I
took it out on the highway, a steady stream of smoke came from behind the
car, and people would pull up beside me and yell "Your car's on fire!".
So, I took the engine apart... I was very impressed at how easy it was to
get everything off, without having to take the block out of the car.
Last night I took the head apart, and noticed there there is a
little play with the valves in the valve guides. There isn't a lot, and
I'm not sure if it is enough to really worry about, but I noticed that
there weren't any valve seals. I looked up the diagram, and sure
enough... no seals appear on the head diagram for the thirteen hundred.
The strange thing though: I looked up a spridget head diagram, which as I
understand is the same engine... and it shows seals. So, does anybody
know what the deal is? Would a set of spridget vale seals work on my
spit?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated, I'm trying to get
everything going to go back to school in September.
Thanks,
Andy.
