Listers,
I'm sure some of these issues have been beat to death many times in the
past... but if so it's time to document them properly!
My questions are as follows:
1) By the dimensions quoted in Bently/Haynes (and other sources) it appears
that the 1500 motor is a stroked 1300. Will the pistons interchange?
2) Did Triumph change head castings (and casting #s) between the 4 port
1300 and the early ('73 & '74) US 1500s? If so, what are the numbers?
3) Looking quickly at one of the vendor's catalogs, it appeared that the
following prefixes were used for Spitfire transmissions: FC, FD, FH, FT
(single rail) My 1973 1500 came with a three rail o/d (and the comm#
indicates o/d!) that has an "FK" prefix. Is it true that my transmission
doesn't really exist? ;-)
4) Has anyone ever bothered to measure prop shafts (or drive shafts to some
:-) to determine which ones can be interchanged in a pinch?
5) The 1500 axles are 1" longer than the pre-1500 axles. What is the
actual axle length? (and how did you measure? u-joint "center" to end?
flange to end?)
I think that's enough questions for now. I look forward to the jewels of
wisdom from the list!
Jim
