Listers,

Just wanted to share this experience with you all. At the SCCA Southwest
Division Divisional event #1 down in New Orleans (say that 5 times fast!) I
had competition in my class (D-Mod) who was running a '79 MG Midget. This
gentleman had apparently grenaded several 1500 motors before deciding that
the better path was.... a Spitfire 1300 motor.

Twin side draft Webers, 14:1 compression, etc.

When the trans in my '76 Spitfire autocrosser failed on Saturday (jumps out
of third gear) he graciously offered to allow me take a run in his car on
Sunday to finish out the event. WOW. It took about 5 or 6 good revs to
clear out the engine to get it to run right, then hang on tight.

Well, this gent is looking to either: sell the motor outright (he's
dropping in a Mazda rotary), asking $5k... or find an appropriate vintage
Spitfire to drop the motor into.

If anyone in the New Orleans area has a round tail Spitfire project for
sale, or wants the motor please drop me a line and I'll pass along his
number.

Keep Triumphing!

Jim
