Thanks to all those offering advise regarding the slipping OD unit and
my thought of removing the gear oil. The majority of opinion was "spec
calls for and you should use 90 wt. GL-4 gear oil".
Actually, after purchasing the car, I wanted to make sure all was
correct and searched hard to find the stuff; finally locating 85-90 wt.
GL/4 in the Los Angeles area -- purchased two gallons while there on a
business trip.
As you may recall, after changing out the clutch, I experienced slippage
in the OD. It was suggested to me that gear oil (today) is not gear oil
of twenty years ago (with the addition of additives, etc.) and that 50
wt. oil may solve my problem.
First, I drained the gear oil and filled the unit with regular ATF to
help flush out the gear oil and drove it around for 20 or so miles
working the overdrive in/out. Then I drained that and refilled the unit
with straight 40 wt. oil. I've put about 50 miles or so on it today and
can state, at this point, I no longer have any slippage and the unit
works flawlessly.

Best regards,
Ed Hamilton
