Will,

    First off, I'm not sure what this "Blue thing" connected to the coil is.
Some sort of aftermarket ignition system?

    Anyway, lets start with the distributor.  Pop the cap off and rotate the
motor to TDC on number 1.  (you can use the timing marks on the crank
pulley).  Is the rotor pointing toward the #1 cylinder (front of motor) ?
If not, someone installed the dizzy out of sync.  If it is pointing
correctly toward the front of the block, replace cap (after assuring your
rotor is firmly seated...many replacement rotors are of such poor fit, they
will make intermittent contact with the center post on cap.  I forget which
are the good ones, the light brown as opposed to the black I believe)
(Joe..help me with this, I've been running the Mallory too long).  Now
assure wires from cap to plugs are in correct firing order.  1 - 3 - 4 - 2
moving counter clockwise.  All correct?

Let's try this and go from there...keep me posted.
