First, a disclaimer,
SouthBendClutch is not paying me in any way shape or
form for this. I am just ecstatic about their clutch.
2 I no longer have an SHO, my SHO ended its life last
July, because of a friend who decided to borrow my car
and get head in it while he was drunk, and crashed it
into what I do not know until this day.
I Now drive a 98 Maxima SE 5spd, which I acquired in
February with 126k on the clock. I bought it from
carmax as I was an employee there and signed a waiver
releasing them from all liability if something was to
go wrong with the car. The TOB as they told me was
making a noise, so before I bought it, I made them
change the clutch... However it turned out that didnt
solve the problem, and after I put 900$ into a new
clutch, and exhaust and battery for inspection, I had
no choice but to buy a car with aa bad tranny. My
maxima has 147k on the clock now. from February to
the end of July, I put 20k on it with the bad bearing,
and finally it started going bad....
I posted this on the Nissan Forums (under the 95-99
Maxima)... I just thought it would be great info for
you guys also... I dont have an SHO anymore, but the
subscription to the list stayed.. so here it is... my
2 cents about SBC....
My Maxima is back from the shop with
1. a new tranny from a red 99 se-l with 88k miles (I
have a white 98 se with 147k)
the reason my tranny had to be replaced was because of
the input shaft bearing...
2. a brand new from the factory OEM nissan flywheel
3. 5qts of redline MT 90
and finally
4. A brand new rally series clutch from
SouthBendClutch.
What SBC does, is they take (for the rally series
which is the first upgrade from OEM)
EXEDY oem clutches and change the lining to one that
is organic, and sewn through with steel/copper.
This is my experience with if from the first day.
The pedal once I drove the car feels extremely overly
soft... I started getting upset and called the guys at
SBC. They told me not to worry and test out the clutch
some more.
At my lunch break from work, I took it up and down 795
( a short local stretch of hwy down here in baltimore
county). I made it a point to approach redline as much
as possible in every gear. When shifting, the shift
proved to be smooth, steady, and quick, no matter how
high the rpms were. Also in normal driving, I never
could shift without a jerk before. Now that problem is
solved completely, the shifting is flawless.
Finally, John at SBC told me to try and burn out on
the clutch....
I revved the car to only about 3000-3500 rpms and
dropped the clutch....
I was expecting a small chirp of the wheels...
What I got was a full fledged burn out throughout the
whole length of first gear!!! If I had decided to
continue into second, Im confident I would be burning
out into the beginning of second also.
I talked to Andy at SBC asking how I can promote them,
and he told me the best way was to post to the forums
that I am a member of. They also shipped me out a few
stickers and decals to put on the car, which I will do
with pride. Andy also told me that If I have people
lining up to buy their clutches through me, he can
hook me up with more than decent discounts, and I, in
turn, can pass those savings on to you guys. I paid
195 for my kit with shipping. I am sure I could
arrange some great group deals
