Unless you are running a chip or other engine management, keep the cats.
Apart from the environmental issues (that matter to some people), the car
won't run right with no cats unless you tune it.
Catted y-pipes like the Catco are cheap enough.

I want to replace the exhaust on my 89 before it falls off on it's own. It
is currently being held on with bailing wire and the mufflers have holes in
them. Was thinking I would use a catless Y to save money since we don't
cats in KS. I would go with Dynomax for the rest since it is the only
complete exhaust kit available for the SHO that I have found. Is this the
kind of job a non-mechanic could do with simple hand tools and a floor jack
on a weekend? I do have an air compressor and impact tools, but no way to
weld. I have got to make friends with somebody with a lift....
