Dear Mark,
Glad to hear that you are on the mend. The liver is one organ that can
rejuvenate itself, it is quite a wonderful thing.
I paused drinking alcohol for a month for a New Year's resolution. For the
first week or so it required a conscious effort as I needed to switch
beverages (I switched to Diet Coke first and then to carbonated water), I
had to occupy my time when I otherwise would be drinking,I had to change my
daily routines/habits, etc., but after a month I just decided to go another
month. That led to another month and it has now been 13 years since I
stopped drinking.
It was a very good lifestyle change for me. I dropped about 15 pounds, my
blood pressure dropped to 117/60, I have better balance, am clearer minded,
feel better in the mornings, and have saved a lot of money. ;-)
After a month or so, you probably will not even notice eliminating alcohol
from your life. Going to social events or parties or dinners where drinking
is the norm, ordering a Diet Coke or a sparkling water just became normal.
Early on, I actually kept track of the money I was saving by not drinking
and that helped me to feel better about it as well.At some point I then
went out and bought a new motorcycle with "the savings" as a reward. ;-)
Wishing you the best of health for a very long time.
Best,
doug
