Hmmm... I had not seen that before.

I always have just manhandled it by prying the pipe up, cut the pipe to
just the right length to clear the length of the coupler,  slide the
coupler fully up the one pipe, and then center it on both ends of the pipes
before the glue dries.

This coupler looks A LOT easier...  :-)
