Karl,
Would this work? If so it should save you a ton of money and a lot
of work work.
Use just enough floor leveler to make sure the slab is smooth and
level. Then lay your tile.
This will leave you with something like a 1-1/2" mismatch. You can
then get a piece of wood and make a transition
plate to cover the lip.
