Maybe I'm a scaredy-cat, but I'd be afraid to use metal
blades on a trimmer that would be used near an electric fence.
What we used to use was goats. Our pastures had a lot less
weeds, and more grass, than it sounds like yours do. The
goats did a great job, though, and we never had any problem
with them getting zapped by the fence, or tangled up in it.
Can you rent the John Deere and give it a try?
