Definitely worth checking into, but around here, 8 ft bulbs cost about the
same as 4 ft, making them effectively half the price. Also, in my
experience, the 8 footers last noticeably longer. I have more 8's than 4's
in my garage (all on the same switch), but I mostly change 4' bulbs, even
counting the 8' ones I break <g>
