It's not that they are likely to crumble if weight is on them, it's that
if they are "jarred" they could.
IE, If a car is support by a jack about an inch above them and the jack
fails, they could crush the block.
If I take my bulldozer and set the blade on a block, then lift the front
of the tracks, it will support it. But if I lift the blade and inch above
the block then bring it down, it will split the block.

geez, I never thought about a block crumbling. a guy down my friend's
street has had an old chevy truck on 4 blocks in his backyard for as long
as I've known her (about 11 years). I've been wondering about the
condition of the sheet metal but the blocks look fine.
