Not only that, the soft compound of summer tires can actually be damaged
by cold, to the point that they become low-traction bricks.  I
distinctly remember the first time I subjected my SP8000s to
sub-freezing temperatures... wow!

Surprisingly, as long as they're in order, my wife doesn't mind them too
much!  Hey, speaking of which... don't know why I didn't make the
connection in the past... I have two sets of 185/60-14 tires for sale. 
I think the original question was for 185/70-14, so these are probably
the wrong size.  Sorry for the ad, if the original poster (or anyone
else) is interested, let me know privately.

Yeah, I was about to get another set of Arctic Alpins, but I think I'll
try his suggestion.  Anyone who has seen him drive at Philly autocross
events knows to take his tire suggestions without question. :D
