OK - here's a new subject for the infinite wisdom of readers.
I want to make a special purpose "truck" powered by a small (15HP?) gas
engine. My garden tractor uses a Peerless transaxle - are there any
other makes/models that I should consider?
My 6-spd Peerless will only shift when tractor is at standstill - not
ideal for my "truck". What sort of transaxle are the "shift on-the-go"
type - not hydrostatic judging by the price.
Hydrostatic would seem ideal IF I can find a used one for reasonable
price - are there any disadvantages to them? My tractor even in 6th gear
only goes just above walking speed. Are the 2spd (hi/lo) hydrostatic
likely to give me a little more speed - say double walking speed? I
know it depends on wheel size(!) - but based on tractor experience?
Thx - Derek
