Wheels are defined by axles, not by tires.
So a "duallie truck" (2 axles, 6 tires.) is a "2X-" Vehicle.
The 2 ton military trucks (Deuces) have 3 axles (all driven) and 10 tires.
They are 6X6's

I don't think so Randall . . . the ol' Army 6 x 6 had tandem duals in the
back and drive to all wheels. It would become a 10 x 10 by your definition
. . . I reckon it means "wheel units" whether dual or single.
