I installed lamp posts at the end of my driveway and I need to get power to
it for the lights. The nearest connection point on the correct side of the
driveway is 300 feet away. I was going to run 14 guage wire out there, but
wasnt sure if I need to bump up the gauge because of the distance. I will
probably run 100 to 200 watts of lights. A retired electrician from the
phone company says I need to bump up one guage for each 100 feet. The means
I'll need 8 guage wire. Seems a little extreme to me. To compound it, the
wire to the box I am connecting to is 12 guage wire and is buried. It's
already 50 to 75 feet from the breaker box. Any thoughts or
recommendations?
