When I have had this happen, I've managed to grind out the E-Z out
with a carbide bit in a Dremel tool. Takes a while.

I have used a different design 'E-Z out' made by Rigid. These consist
of rods of medium-soft steel which have sharp splines on the outside.
There's a steel collar which slides over the rod and has a hex on the
outside so you can turn the rod. You drill a correct sized hole into
the offending part, pound the rod in, and then slip the hex over it to
turn the part.

Since the rods aren't super-hardened like EZ-outs, they don't break off.
The smaller sized rods do twist a little to easily for my taste, but
they don't break off and they can always be removed.

The problem is that I can't find these anywhere. The set I have used is
owned by a friend who's a former outboard motor and Saab mechanic. He
can't find any more of them either and he probably got the set he has 10
or 15 years ago.

Has anyone seen these things for sale anywhere?
