I have had several rear view mirrors fall off in the summer heat (OK, I take
a while to learn). I would think that heating one and contracting the other
surface would shear the glue, say a heat gun on the glass and a supply of
ice cubes for the metal bit.

I bought a used car that apparently had some device mounted to
the back (like a ski or bike rack). The only remaining evidence
of this is a small metal block (approx. 1 1/2" square by 1/4" thick)
bonded to the rear hatch glass. It was probably was used as an
anchor point for a stablizing strap. It is bonded very securely via
some adhesive such as rear-view mirror glue.
My question is: Does anyone have any suggestions for removing this
without destroying the glass? (i.e. don't suggest a hammer)
Any recommendations for solvents or ???
TIA
