Doesn't that apply most places that need garage heating? In my own new home the garage is almost surrounded by the living area so insulation is great but I could not even consider the usual natural gas alternatives because of no acceptable vent arrangement. What I did was to add a 4" duct from the basement hot air furnace directly into the garage WITHOUT any return ducting [to prevent fumes or smells in the home]. To boost the airflow I added an exhaust fan. Works absolutely fine - warm in winter - cool in summer from the central air. Only problem so far is that the blower motor is in the hot air flow and this seems to have buggered the bearings. Maybe a better quality exhaust fan? - or simply replace the cheap one each fall. Either way a lot cheaper than electric heat which was the only alternative. Any lister got any recommendations on a better fan arrangement? Derek |
