For what its worth, for years I have used a 4x6 and have it laid across the
rafters over my garage and have had no problems. It is just laying up
there without any fastening. I use a chain wrapped around the 4x6 and hook
the chainfall to that. I also made an A-frame out of 4x4 legs and 4x6 beam
that I also use with the chainfall for outside work. I have had no
problems with either of these setups.
