Pay attention to the CFM (cubic feet per minute) rating of the
compressor. It is generally in direct proportion with the horsepower of
the motor. The probable reason that your old one wore out is because it
couldn't keep up the required *volume*.
When you compare horsepower between units, make sure you read the HP
right off the *motor*, not off the packaging, since they tend to get
optomistic on the packaging, sometimes.
