Inline with the others, I would consider fiberglass to
be a patch, and steel to be a repair.
I guess each has it's place, but a good steel repair is
as good as new, fiberglass will always be a patch.
If you have the equipment already, I find it easier
and faster to patch with steel than to use fiberglass. I
have fiberglass fenders on my MGB, so I have had to
do my share of each later.
Personally, if I was going through the hassle of
repairing and painting, I'd go with steel. It's just
too much work to do anything but a first class
attempt.
