Most shops I've been in have fluorescent (note spelling) lights and
haven't had a problem. I have a bigger problem with incandescents
casting shadows on the work I'm dealing with. I have fluorescents
over the mill and lathe and have managed to keep ten fingers to date.

I s'pose if you wanted wanted the geek overkill award in this
department, you could get one of the fluorescent dimmer set-ups that
bump the frequency up to something like 10kHz to operate the fixture.

In all truth, though, I've found the $5 each fluorescent "workshop"
fixtures, all over the place, to be the best deal in lighting my shop.
They buzz and flicker for the first three minutes then shut up and put
out decent light. I have about sixteen of them in the shop and have
little problem with seeing my way around.
