Standard 7 inch H4s (eg Hella) fit straight into the foglamp housings to make
them driving lamps. I also fitted a relay, heavy cabling and routed the (now
low current) supply to the fog-driving lamp switch through the high beam to meet
Australian requirements. The driving lamps go off when the headlamps dip. The
headlamps need the thin inner surround and base from an Englis 50s to 60s car
(Morris Minor) to fit the original surround. The mount need slight bending to
give a good fit, and you use the original RR beam adjusters. Then you have
glorious lighting. 55W bulbs are sufficient, and do not overload the generator.
I used 100W bulbs for a while: not much better, but with 400W up front the
generator brushes packed up regularly. Also, Australian cars always had
blinkers, red at the rear using the brake lamps. A good mod I will do one day
is to parallel a small yellow bulb in the driving lamps to the blinkers, and
also to mount amber repeaters below the rear bumper.
