GMCs (like mine) use electric gauges. I assume (I get in trouble when I use
that word) the sending unit and therefore the electrical characteristics of
the gauge would be similar between Chevy and GMC. Next time I get a chance
I'll measure the resistance of the sending unit to ground with the wire
removed both cold and at 180 degrees (my thermostat is a 180).

i tested my gas gauge a while ago and yes you are correct. i had to ground the
speedo case and use the sending unit to test it. i was getting mixed results
today, thanks for the reminder.
any thoughts on the temp gauge? the build manual only has the the carilary
tube style in it. i assume the 55-57 had the capilary tube style. i've owned a
couple of 58-59s and they all had the electric temp gauges.
i think it is toast unless some says i'm testing it wrong. any one have a temp
guage they'd like to part with? remans are $60 at brothers. i have a set of v8
side mounts for a 55-59 i'd like to trade, or a new door hinge or a heater
(not deluxe) and lots of used stuff
