I'm not confused. Are you?
I took the drums with hubs from a '50 to '54 Chevy car and mounted them on a
'41 Chevy pickup by swapping the bearings around and making some spacers for
the backing plates.
The spindle part of the question is how far back, and how late, were the
spindles compatible allowing this swap to work. If someone is talking about
swapping spindles I missed that part.
Are you sure the bearings are the same on a TF truck as on the cars in
question? If I remember correctly I used the inner bearing from the truck
and the outer from the car, or maybe it was the other way around. Of course
a '41 could be far different from a TF, but the swap worked out great on
that truck.
I've been told this swap also works on AD trucks, though the details could
be slightly different.
My concern about this swap is that you rarely see an early 50's car anymore,
and I wonder where anyone would find the hubs and drums involved anyway...

I think we are using the wrong word and it may be causing some confusion.
The SPINDLES from a 54 Chevy car are not the same as the SPINDLES on a TF
truck. The FRONT HUB from a 54 Chevy car uses the same bearings as used in
a TF truck and therefore mounts on a TF truck SPINDLE. The 54 Chevy HUB has
a 5 bolt pattern.
And for Steve Johnson who was looking for wider wheels 20 years ago, mid
70's GM 1/2 ton 4 wheel drive wheels use the same 6 bolt patterns as our 1/2
ton ADs and TFs with appropriate backspacing to clear old suspension, brake
and steering components. These wheels are typically 15" x 7" or 8" wide.
That's what I run on my TF.

I'm not sure how far back the spindles are the same, but I performed the
front drum swap on my '41 back in the 70's when 50 - 54 Chevy cars weren't
that hard to find...

More likely, the front spindles are original, and the hubs and drums are
from a 51-54 passenger car. The 57 cars used ball joint suspension, the
spindles are completely different.
The 55-57 car rearend and 51-4 car front hubs were a popular swap for the
late 50s trucks in the old days...
