I did a search over on Stovebolt and found a thread that included a picture
of the switch from the '67 sm420, which is what I have. I'm going to see if
I can luck into one of those...
If you placed a lever of some sort, so it was parallel to the line defined
by moving the shifter from first to second, but toward the driver so it was
only operated when the shifter is pulled all the way over for reverse, I
think a reliable but ugly switch could be contrived.
The '67 OEM seems the best answer, and having seen what it looks like, I'm
thinking my reed switch approach could be made in a similar package....
Thanks for the idea.

Steve, back-up switch....how about a brake switch like on firewall of most
AD trucks? lever hits it and pushes it to go on. On 3spd, would be easy with
linkage, even up on firewall. Not sure if you can get enuf movement for only
Reverse on lever. Never mind, no room under floor there, and look stupid on
top of floor, kinda dumb after all. Could have a push on only, that you have
to hold and mount it on shifter like a 2spd switch is. OR, a 2spd switch
itself on lever. Seems like you would remember easier, be one hand/finger
operation, and right handy. Wouldn't even need to look to use it. I like
that idea. Truck places should have a switch like that!
