I replaced the power booster today because i could hear the leak from under
the dash. I assume the leak was coming from where the plunger comes through
the boot and connects to the brake pedal. I also looked at the plunger going
from the booster to the master cylinder and it had grooves in it. They
looked as if maybe they were suppose to be there, but they weren't any
grooves on the new plunger.
The code was 442 which merely means a leak in the emmisions system and your
right,,,it could be any number of things. I am hoping the vacuum leak in the
power booster fixed the problem.
Oh and by the way, I have very good brakes now...(grin)
Thanks for the help,
Tom

Tom, check the big tube off the canister going to the intake or carb area.
They have a plastic elbow going into a rubber grommet on booster. You can
buy the grommets at most auto stores. Check those clamps and for oily soft
hose. Buy the special hose, not just reg rubber if you replace it. It's
reinforced so as not to collapse if oily and soft later. You may get engine
vac reading as incorrect with a leak here. I'm not sure what that code is
off the top of my head. Engine vac loss and bad O2 sensors show up alot, and
could be lots of
diff things, have to start checking around. Those codes are only a start,
you still have to find the problem!
