I have a surplus military trailer where aluminum sheet (soft, no magnet) was
spot welded to ferrous sheet metal (rusty, magnet stuck). THAT one has me
scratching my head.

How would you weld ferrous to non-ferrous?

Mark I`m talking off the cuff here having never done this my self BUT I have
seen this done two ways.
#1 drill and bolt with SS bolts thru the bed .
# 2 drill small holes in line with the strip thru the bed and weld from the
back side( strip can be polished back out) holes after welding can be
ground down and re painted.
