Hi,
After a 50 mile trip with no problems my 53 3100 / 216 started running
rough and would buck and skip like it was fuel starved. Ive done lots of
things and the problem has improved, but....
After starting, which it does with difficulty, it idles easily. After
driving smoothly for 3-5 miles it begins to get rough again, not so jerky
as before, but still not real smooth.
Here's what I've done so far:
new fuel filter (between fuel pump and carb)
New points, plugs, plug wires, rotor, cap, coil.
I've emptied the gas tank and checked for debris or restrictions and found
nothing. I've watched it run in the dark and observed no sparking around
plugs or distributor.
The fuel pump is new within the last 18 months and probably doesn't have
2000 miles on it.
The screw in the bottom of the distributor that the coil wire connects to
on the outside and the points connect to on the inside seemed loose and
required an extra washer on the inside. The connections are tight, but the
screw seems to move in its position.
I'm beginning to be out of ideas and I'm afraid to go too far from home
with the truck. I'm ready for more expert advice if someone has an
idea. Thanks.
