The minimum recommended rim width for 235/70R16 is 6.0".
The closest modern size would be LT215/85R16 (min recommended rim is 5.5").
You would probably be OK with the 5" rims.
Originally it had a narrow "inch" size tire. You may be able to find a
7.50R16.
Both LT215/85R16 and 7.50R16 should be available in radial.
