Mark,

Whatever information you can get from your brother would be appreciated. As a
pilot and having had a number of performance cars over the years I too "drive
ahead", but the freeways even non-rush hour are 70MPH plus and fairly busy. We
also have a fair number of "new to the country" drivers up here in Northern
California and sometimes they aren't really too sharp, so defensive driving is
the order of the day. Unfortunately the only real way to go from my house to
other local towns in our area is to get on the freeways since there aren't many
back roads available.

I'm hoping the steering box adjustments and some minor suspension changes like
removing a leaf or two and the Hydrovac brakes will make it a better driver at
freeway speeds. I don't want to make some major changes unless it is absolutely
necessary. Maybe a old set of 3-2's and old style headers just for fun!

Hi Ernie,

Brian's vacationing in Maine right now and he's not an email type, but I will
get with him when he gets back and see if he can get you some information.

I understand the street issues; that's why I'm doing my 58 Suburban with 56
front end sheet metal more as a restification than a restoration, though I
drove it stock on the interstate at speed (60-70mph) with no problems till the
original 283 went. The engine couldn't handle it but I didn't mind the
brakes/suspension at all. I do have a habit of "driving" as far ahead as I can
see though and so tend to accommodate a vehicle's limiations more than others
might and am used to a wide range of vehicles. My daily drivers include a 66
Corvair, 86 Chevy pickup, 86 Corvette convertible, and a 97 JEEP Wrangler. CA
rush hour traffic might not count though...
